Day 2 World Series of Poker Main Event Update..

Posted by RounderKevin On July - 9 - 2009

Day 2b of the World Series of Poker main event has drawn to a close, and there will now be a one day layoff before the start of Day 3.

Day 3 will officially get underway at 12 pm local time on Friday, and will combine the survivors from Day 2a and Day 2b into one large field.

2,924 players started Day 2b, and by the time the scheduled four levels had been completed, only 1,486 remained.

648 players managed to survive Day 2a, which means that they are currently around 2,100 players left in the main event.

Eric Cloutier (383k), Ed Perry (370k) and Brandon Demes (370k) finished as the three chip leaders on Day 2a.

The final chip totals haven’t been submitted as of yet, but it appears as though Troy Weber (453k), Dan Bilzerian (440k) and Gabe Walls (418k) managed to finish at the top of the heap on Day 2b.

Troy Weber appears to be the chip leader of the main event heading into Day 3, as he currently lords over a stack of around 453k.

Here are some of the well-known names that managed to finish Day 2b with large chip stacks:

Phil Ivey (325k)
JC Tran (254k)
Hac “trex313″ Dang (234k)
Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier (200k)
David Benyamine (199k)
Justin Bonomo (190k)

Greg Mueller (287k), Andy Black (215k) and Sorel Mizzi (166k) were some of the more recognizable names that managed to finish Day 2a with healthy stacks.

Dan Harrington (183k), Antonio Esfandiari (164k), Phil Hellmuth (135k) and Joe Hachem (130k) will all be around to play Day 3 as well.

RoundersReport is closely watching the progress of long time friend Day Bickell (photo above) who will start day 3 with a very respectable 97k.

These numbers are not final as of yet – I would expect that Pokernews.com will be providing an update with the finalized numbers shortly.

As mentioned, Day 3 gets underway at 12 pm on Friday (July 10th).

By the end of play on July 15th, the “November Nine” will be set, and there will then be a nearly four month pause in the tournament.

The final table will begin on November 7th, and conclude on November 10th.

The top 648 players in the main event will cash, while the eventual champion will go home with over $8.5 million dollars.
