tom_durrrr_dwanThe match’s format is simplistic. Dwan will take on each opponent across 500 hands of No Limit Hold’em or Pot Limit Omaha. The series has a buy-in of $500,000 and neither player is permitted to leave the table until they are broke or the requisite number of hands has been played. The price of poker is $500/$1,000.

Eddie Hearn, who is organizing the gala on behalf of Matchroom Sport, commented in a press release distributed on Monday, “The stage is set for Tom to make history in London this week. The opponents are ready. Tom Dwan is the biggest draw in poker and to have a TV show in his name at such a young age shows the commercial power of the man. Posted by RounderKevin On November - 10 - 2009

Ilari_SahamiesThere have been some pretty epic heads-up, high stakes battles on Full Tilt Poker in the past.

However, Sunday night’s battle between “isildur1″ and Tom “durrrr” Dwan outshined any of the previous battles by a mile.

Huge pots. Several million dollar swings. Incredibly aggressive play.

In total, Tom “durrrr” Dwan and “isildur1″ battled it out on Full Tilt Poker yesterday for nearly twelve hours. They mostly played No Limit Hold’em, but also decided to add a few hands of PLO right at the end of the session. Read the rest of this entry »

Phil Ivey Appears on the Cover of ESPN: The Magazine

Posted by RounderKevin On October - 29 - 2009

2009 World Series of Poker (WSOP) November Nine member Phil Ivey graces the cover of the November 2nd issue of ESPN: The Magazine. The expose, entitled “4 Days, 3 Nights, $1 Million,” chronicles Ivey’s jet-setting exploits at the craps tables in casinos around the world.

Phil_IveycloseChad Millman followed Ivey from Foxwoods to Austria, with his article explaining Ivey’s stature in the industry: “Phil Ivey is a poker pro, but to call him that limits the scope of his game. It’s like saying Jay-Z is just a rapper. Ivey is an all-around player, a man with the need and nerve to wager obscene amounts on poker, pro and college sports, craps, or his own golf game.” Read the rest of this entry »

October FTP High Stakes Update: Dwan on Top

Posted by RounderKevin On October - 23 - 2009

Tom “durrrr” Dwan has continued his rollercoaster of a year in October, banking an estimated $1.32 million dollars over 6,263 tracked hands.

Dwan on topDwan has been all over the place in 2009. He got off to a horrendous start in 2009, dropping millions of dollars to start the year. “durrrr” then battled back to breakeven status, only to drop millions of dollars once again.

With his October upswing, Dwan has battled back once again, and currently sits with a profit of $215k on Full Tilt Poker for the year. Given how much he was down earlier in the year, I’m sure that Dwan isn’t too disappointed with a profit of over $200k. Read the rest of this entry »

Mike Matusow, Mark Seif atop WPT Festa al Lago Leaderboard

Posted by RounderKevin On October - 23 - 2009

The World Poker Tour (WPT) kicked into action once again on Wednesday with the first five rounds of play in the 2009 Festa al Lago Championship Event, a $15,000 buy-in tournament at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.

Mike_MatusowThe Festa al Lago, the fourth stop on the Season 8 schedule for the WPT, was in danger of being one of the lowest attended events since the inception of the tour. During much of Festa al Lago schedule at the Bellagio, tournaments were significantly smaller than in past years due to the continuing strains of the economy on the bankrolls of some of the biggest players in the game. For example, Full Tilt Poker’s head man Howard Lederer was able to capture the $5,000 Festa al Lago HORSE Championship, but the field only contained 19 players and paid the top three. Thus, there was a great deal of concern when the cards hit the air at Noon local time on Wednesday. Read the rest of this entry »

In addition to his recent success in “live” poker tournaments, Phil Ivey has also enjoyed a nice run on Full Tilt Poker, banking over $1.5 million dollars in just the past week.

Over a total of 2,770 tracked hands in October, Phil Ivey has managed to bank an impressive $1,511,920 in total profits. That works out to an average profit of about $545 per hand. Read the rest of this entry »

Tom Dwan Up $235k in “durrrr” Challenge

Posted by RounderKevin On October - 5 - 2009
Tom “durrrr” Dwan and Patrik Antonius played another short installment in the ongoing “durrrr challenge” late Wednesday night, with Dwan booking a $274k win over the 400 hand session.

With his profit on Wednesday night, Dwan has moved back into the lead in the challenge, and is currently up around $235k over 23,597 hands.

The “durrrr challenge”, which started back in early 2009, is now nearly half over, with 23,597 of the required 50,000 hands having now been completed.

The challenge has been moving along at a snail’s pace, despite the fact that both players have stated a desire to finish the challenge as quickly as possible. With the World Series of Poker and World Series of Poker Europe events now out of the way, hopefully Dwan and Antonius will have more time to complete the challenge. Read the rest of this entry »
