Defining Variance in Poker
Variance and its associated downswings is one of the most talked about subjects by poker players. Every long-term winning player will experience downswings of varying magnitude and frequency.
When the cards are running bad, all but the most experienced players will begin to question whether they still have what it takes to win. This loss of confidence can often make matters worse, compounding the downswing’s magnitude and duration.
