The new site & poker plans

Posted by RounderChris On April - 23 - 2008

So as you all prolly have realized my site is now the property of Sixth Street inc. DBA RoundersReport.com, I am excited about many aspects of this new transition. Basically my “job” is to write articles and do poker room reviews of live poker rooms, something I have always wanted to compile was my experiences in various rooms and cities across the country. My first review was of a local “social” poker room in the Glendale area (Frank’s place) that I have enjoyed playing in for a few years now. I am going to try to do a better job with my reviews and include some helpful to know information such as where to eat/stay so fourth.

I’m really excited about what this site will eventually be, There are many things in the works including videos, this was a big one for me – If you want to learn to play NL holdem tournaments there are literally a thousand great videos out there, 6-handed NL cash games are also in great supply, what’s missing is a focus on 9-handed NL, 9-handed deep stack poker, Omaha high/low, Razz, all forms of stud & mixed games……. I think the lack of focus from training sites is that most Internet players are playing NL holdem so it makes sense that they cater to that broad market, we on the other hand are not catering to Internet players we are focused on brick & mortar poker games and use online poker as a way of presenting theories and basic game play.

on the poker end not much is really exciting, I have been playing quite a bit in Frank’s place however the low stakes games are a real grind, I always have a good time playing there and talking with the regulars and despite an hourly win rate that is beyond sick I am going to start playing regularly at Casino Arizona, Most likely I will be playing $20/40 holdem with the occasional $30/60, $40/80 mix game as it rarely runs these days. That is it for now – I should have a Vegas trip report coming soon after the first week of may…

Epassporte & Politics Around Online Poker

Posted by RounderChris On April - 13 - 2008

Yesterday Epassporte pulled out of the online poker industry sending many like myself into hysteria trying to figure out how we would get money offline. Many are also having to find new ways to make deposits online if epassporte was their primary source for funding their online accounts. It is interesting that as of today epassporte has not posted anything to their site letting their customers know that they will be unable to fund their poker accounts, so people make a deposit into epassporte at a fee, find out that they cannot deposit those funds onto FullTilt or Stars so then they have to withdraw the funds back to their bank accounts FOR ANOTHER FEE! really cute guys…..

Poker/Politics
many are saying that republicans want to impede our rights to play online – while I agree with the statement I think it’s fair to say that both sides of the aisle are impeding our rights.

Does regulation restore your rights to play online?
NO! regulation gives the US government the ability to tax online sites that agree to pay – Sites such as FullTiltPoker, Pokerstars and so on are under no obligation to follow regulation or pay taxes to the US however they WILL because it is good business and would allow them to freely do business with US citizens. However, lets say that XYZPoker.com opened it’s doors post regulation and decided that they would not pay any regulation fee’s/taxes to the US, you have studied the site and found that they are 100% legit and you love their new software -
will you be allowed to play on their site?
How would banks know who are US regulated and who are not?
are you breaking the law playing at XYZpoker.com but within your rights to play at FullTilt?
are you free to play online poker ONLY with sites permitted by government?

It seems to me that there is realistically no way to regulate something that takes place abroad, If the act of playing online poker is legal than why would sites pay the US government?
Feel like there are too many questions?? that’s because there are!

I do not want online poker banned and outlawed in the US
I do not want the freedom to ONLY play online poker with software “approved” by the US government.

supporting legislation that regulates online poker is counter-productive to our rights!
