Myth: Professional poker players are wealthy
Reality: First, someone with no job who plays poker all day while someone else pays his/her bills is not a “professional poker player” that person is a degenerate.
Someone who has made a fortune and is retired from active work and plays poker all day is not a “professional poker player” that person is paying his/her bills and living off money generated through other sources than poker and is a hobbyist.
A “professional poker player” is one who’s income is derived through poker. That income may only be enough to survive or it could be far more. Just as there are far diferant inclome levels among stocks traders, business owners and real estate investors there are vast differances among professional poker players.
Myth: Ultra high limit players make more than mid-high players.
Reality: Ego and pride do not allow some players to remain or drop down to levels where they can make more money. If someone is sitting and waiting for a $100/200 game to start for 5 hours/day and only playing 2 hours/day when they could drop down to $25/50 and play 4 tables for 8 hours/day they are egomaniacs who are driven by pride and ego not by true success.
Myth: Online Cheat software/collusion
Reality: I grouped these two together however only one is a myth (cheat software) Ther is no program that will magicly make your opponents hole cards appear, The only way that this could happen is if the poker room itself allowed allowed it and that would hardly be in they’r best interest.
Collusion is however a reality – however, collusion has been around since the deck was created, When i was playing the local rooms here in Phoenix many years ago I learned quickly what collusion was and who the colluders were. Never have i seen anybody kicked out for collusion – online rooms however have taken a much stronger approach. Full Tilt patrols tables and when they spot collusion they close accounts.
I am going to continue adding to this post as i think there are so many more. I am having my office re-done today so i need to finish that so i can work next week.
