The Quest, My biggest day ever, taking some time off

Posted by RounderChris On June - 21 - 2007

As usual I have failed to update this journal in quite some time, partially due to the fact that I have spent record hours online every day these past months playing my heart out. I have mostly went back to playing cash games online, I am still focused on becoming the #1 Omaha-Hi-low heads-up player online however the sit-n-go’s require a great deal of time dedicated to playing them and cut into my cash game time so I am slowing it down some. I still believe that I will reach First place bye the end of this year however I am just not going to force it, It feels very strange to work all day for $80 when playing $10 at a time when there are JUICY $500/1k games going on.

I played my first $500/1k limit Omaha hi-low game the other day and produced my largest day ever. By no means am I going to play this game regularly as I am under rolled for it and it is rarely as juicy as it was the other day. What I was shocked most about was the play of the “pro’s” in the game, There was a very famous tournament player at the table and I will not say who it was though many of you who were watching the game probably know who it was – anyway, His game was just awful. I agree with the theory that you must be aggressive in short handed play however In Omaha that aggression must be backed up with big draws to scoops or made lows, this guy was jamming the pot against me with top two pair and no low draw on boards that had low draws with some scary flush and straight draws as well, Then when I would make like 5th best low with flush I would still get paid off on the river and a few times check raised! :)

His aggression/reckless play was causing other players to play back with marginal hands when I woke up with some monsters. My end of session total was $113k, which is very descent for playing the majority of the game 4 handed and at most 6 handed.

I am going to slow down a bit and start playing some more live poker, I truly enjoy playing live and I know it improves my game. I am planning to get more involved in tournaments and try to play at least 3 large tourneys/week. It seems like forever since I was playing tournaments and I feel like I am a bit rusty, I have said it before but cash games and tournaments are so different in so many ways!

Next update coming soon – Promise!
